Program Overview
Over the last four years, The Keystone Center and the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science and Technology (NCSSSMST) have developed and conducted four successful Keystone Center Youth Policy Summit programs. These summits, addressing the topics of Sustainable Energy as it relates to Transportation and Childhood and Adolescent Nutrition, involved 40 students from 10 NCSSSMST schools each year.
The Keystone Center Policy Summit takes place at The Keystone Center and Science School in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. At the Summit, students learn mediation techniques during educational sessions, work with others and present their findings, and also be a part of a facilitated mediation to resolve this issue.
This project with The Keystone Center in Keystone, Colorado provides outstanding learning opportunities in the areas of sciences and research for students. Students involved in this innovative cutting-edge pilot, work throughout the school year. Each participant develops a research paper on a specific technology used in their topic area and analyzes the issue through the eyes of a stakeholder group.
